I always forget quite how magnificent John Osterberg Jr is as a live performer, even if age has robbed him of some of his mobility. Although one might have predicted a rather sober set on the basis of his latest album, the sheer viscerality of his stage presence soon put paid to such nonsense, and combined with a brilliant backing band, this ultimately proved one of the most electrifying shows of the year.
